3 Major Pitfalls in Internet Marketing

Okay, it's another day and you've decided...once again...to try your hand at internet marketing. But just what is internet marketing anyway?

Because of the absolute flood of information on the internet with regards to making a living online, most people become quickly overwhelmed. I know this from personal experience. It took me YEARS to overcome the distractions and to learn to focus on the task at hand: making money online.

Today I'm going to cover three major pitfalls to avoid in your endeavors to earn a living online.

Pitfall #1: INFORMATION OVERLOAD

Just enter "make money online" into Google, and you'll see exactly what I mean. There are literally THOUSANDS of products out there that are aimed at the amateur internet marketer. They boast massive amounts of income in ridiculously short periods of time, and most aren't worth the bandwidth used to store them.

Many people quickly become overwhelmed, and their brain just shuts down. Don't let this happen to you. Focus on a specific category of marketing.

While there are countless options out there, I highly recommend that you consider affiliate marketing, which is a proven method of making a steady income by selling other people's products.

Pitfall #2: MASS CHAOS

I can't express enough how important it is to focus and take one step at a time. Let's use affiliate marketing as an example. You've decided to do it, but now what? Which products should you promote? Where can you even find good products? HOW do you promote them?

It's a HUGE internet out there. You have to find a NICHE that interests you before you can ever make a positive effort toward successful online marketing. Most people have no idea where to start so they just pick something and throw it out there. BIG MISTAKE! This is a real business and should be treated as such. That includes proper research and planning. Otherwise you will just waste your money, and never see the results you want.

Pitfall #3: DISTRACTIONS

This has been one of my biggest personal challenges online. I start researching products to promote, and then get sucked into buying them. Then I start following what they say, begin researching again, and then end up buying another distraction. These products all have good information, but they are hindering my progress toward my ultimate goal...making money online. I end up spending all my time reading and none of it acting. You MUST take action to insure success. Training is essential, but if you don't put that training into action, you will not succeed. ALWAYS seek to make forward progress, even if it's only a small action every day.

Internet Marketing Tips - Running Multiple Lists

When I first started building a list, I had one list. It's all I needed at the time. Then one day I realized that I had an idea for a product that, while related to the other list, was different enough that it needed a different list in order to be successful. So, I created another list. A couple of years later, I now have about 20 of these related lists. Yes, it becomes quite a juggling act. So how do you manage them? This article is going to give some insights into juggling multiple lists.

This is of course assuming that your lists are somewhat related and that you can do cross promotions. Okay, having said that, for a normal mailing, you want to keep your emails to the topic of that particular list. For example, let's say you have two lists...one on Adwords and another on article marketing. The one for Adwords, you want to give them nothing but tips on using Adwords. The one for article marketing, you want to give them nothing but tips on article marketing. This way, you keep your respective lists happy.

Now, what if you have a new product out on traffic generation in general? Think about it. People who use Adwords might be interested in other forms of marketing if you can show them that it can be profitable to them. Same thing with article marketers. They're looking to get traffic to their sites. If you can show them other methods to do this, they may be receptive to at least looking at your offer. So in this case, you'd send an email to both lists about your new book on traffic generation.

Naturally, the above example is a simplified one. In many cases, the relationships between two lists is very slim. You may have a buyers list and a non buyers list. You certainly aren't going to send an email to the buyers list about a product that they're already bought, but you would send them an email on a new product. For this reason, if you have multiple products, you're going to need a list for each product so that you don't send a promotion to somebody who already has the product.

List management can get really tricky, but if you keep these simple tips in mind, you shouldn't have too much trouble making sure that your lists get the emails that they're supposed to get.
